STAR stands for Scan, Track, Adapt, Respond.
It takes something that can sound like DJ instinct and turns it into a clear way of explaining the process behind the decisions I make.
That doesn’t mean your party becomes complicated. Quite the opposite.
You shouldn’t need to think about STAR while you’re dancing. It’s there so I do the thinking for you.
Scan The Room
I look beyond the DJ booth. Who’s singing? Who’s dancing? Which tables are reacting? Who’s moving closer? Who has suddenly left the dancefloor?
Track The Energy
A party doesn’t stay at one energy level all night. I track whether the room is building, settling or beginning to change instead of forcing everything towards maximum intensity too early.
Adapt The Music
If a musical direction is connecting people, I can build on it. If the response changes, I can move between styles, decades and genres rather than stubbornly continuing with what I expected to play.
Respond To The Moment
Sometimes the answer is a different record. Sometimes it’s the right request. Sometimes it’s allowing a successful direction to breathe and not interfering with a dancefloor that’s already flying.
